Former WWE Star Reveals They Hated Their Ring Name WWE

A former WWE star has opened up on the origins of their ring name in the company, revealing that they hated it.

Lacey Lane signed with WWE back in 2018, with her making her debut in the Mae Young Classic that year, before going on to make her debut on NXT television the following year under the name Kayden Carter.

During her time in WWE, Kayden was a former Women’s Tag Team Champion alongside partner Katana Chance before the pair were released from the company earlier this year, with Kayden recently making her AEW debut on Dynamite against Mercedes Mone once again under the name Lacey Lane.

Speaking to the Wrestling-Wrestling Podcast, Lacey opened up on the origins of the Kayden Carter ring name, revealing that she hated the name.

“When I tell you I hate that name. It was, so basically in NXT, I was there for the time they were going to go on TV when USA acquired NXT, so it was half on TV and half on the Network. At the time I was upcoming, so I was stil Lacey Lane, and the writer at the time was like ‘you need to pick a name or you’re not gonna be on TV’ and I was like ok.

“So I sent him a list, from 1 to 10, and Kayden was like down at 9 or 10. He ended up picking that one, he was like ‘I like this name Kayden’, and he really wanted me to have a Basketball last name, and that’s where Carter came from, because Vince Carter is 15 and that’s my Basketball number.

“I was throwing things out there like Rodman, and like, Bibby, I was like these are not gonna make sense, the most practical one, and it makes sense because it’s my number would be Carter, so that’s where that came from. That’s the only other way to I could incorporate Basketball into my character.”
