Former WWE Star Joining NXT Commentary This Week

Former WWE Star Joining NXT Commentary This Week

After over four years away from WWE, former Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett will be making his return. Specifically, he will be joining the NXT commentary team this week.

Pro Wrestling Sheet reported the news earlier today. They also stated that this is currently a one-shot deal and not a full-on return. This will be Barrett’s first appearance since leaving WWE in 2016. Here is the quote:

“Pro Wrestling Sheet has learned former WWE star Wade Barrett will be joining the NXT announce team this week.

Sources tell us this is just a one-shot deal for now and that the former leader of Nexus – who won the first original season of NXT – has not signed a full-time deal to re-join the company.”

Barrett is likely best remembered for his run as the leader of the NEXUS in WWE. He debuted on the original NXT in 2010, winning the show and debuting on the main roster as the leader of NEXUS. The group terrorized WWE before a feud with John Cena ended their momentum.

He went on to be a multiple-time Intercontinental Champion and a King of the Ring, later adopting the monicker of Bad News Barrett. Since leaving WWE in 2016, he has not wrestled but has done commentary for the NWA.

Corey Graves also returned to NXT to do commentary this weekend. He replaced Mauro Ranallo who was back in British Columbia, Canada due to a family situation. Barrett being part of this week’s broadcast could mean Ranallo will not yet be returning to the show.
