Former WWE Star Reflects On Release On One Year Anniversary WWE

It has been a year since WWE released numerous NXT stars including Dakota Kai, Dexter Lumis and Malcolm Bivens, a batch of ‘budget cuts’ that would end up being the last of the Vince McMahon regime.

One of the more surprising names listed on that list was Persia Pirotta (Steph De Lander), who had been featured regularly on NXT television with Indi Hartwell, Dexter Lumis and Duke Hudson.

Since her release, Steph has gone on to grow into her own on the independent scene, including an alliance with the Indie God himself, Matt Cardona.

On the one year anniversary of her WWE release, De Lander took to Instagram to reflect on the anniversary, and how she believes it to be the ‘best thing’ that happened to her career.

She wrote:

“Exactly 1 year ago I lost my dream job. Today I sit here & realise it was probably the best thing to happen to my career. Initially, I didn’t know where I fit in on the independent scene. Bitch, I am the independent scene! At first, I groaned at the idea of being back on the indies. But then I realised, now more than ever I am in complete control of my career and my destiny. With a pair of wrestling boots and a microphone in hand, watch me take over the entire f**king industry. What an exciting time to be SDL”

SDL is far from the only name released last year that has since found success, including Dakota Kai returning to WWE and finding success on the main roster.

Dexter Lumis also made his return to the company.
