Former WWE Star Reflects On Their Release & Other Setbacks WWE

Former WWE United States Champion Matt Riddle has reflected on his release from the company and other setbacks.

On September 22, 2023, WWE released former two-time Raw Tag Team Champion Matt Riddle. Since then, Riddle has hit the independent scene and once again becoming a mainstay in several promotions.

Prior to his WWE release, Riddle was involved in an incident at JFK airport where he accused a police officer of sexual harassment and also confirmed he failed multiple drug tests.

Speaking on Developmentally Speaking, Matt Riddle reflected on his WWE release while he was commenting on how Randy Orton’s injury put their RK-Bro team on hold. He said:

“At the same time, that’s kind of the story of my life. In the UFC, five-fight win streak, beating top-ranked fighters, ranked top ten in the world at welterweight, you smoke weed, you’re fired.”

“WWE, you’re killing it, your partner gets hurt, you’re kind of the guy that gets beat up by The Bloodline all the time or what you have, which is fine.”

“But then you go to the airport, you have a couple cocktails and shit goes wrong, people say stuff to you. Whatever.”

“At the end of the day, things happen, I am where I am. People would probably yell at me, but I wouldn’t change it for the world [laughs]. That’s just who I am. You’re supposed to have ups and downs, peaks and valleys,”

Since his release, Matt Riddle has held the NJPW World TV Championship in a brief stint with New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Riddle is one of the top stars for Major League Wrestling where he is set to challenge Satoshi Kojima for the MLW Heavyweight Championship at MLW Kings of Colosseum.
