Sometimes the grass isn’t actually greener on the other side. You don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone. Several other cliches about regretting change. The point is Mike Bennett thinks leaving Ring of Honor was a mistake.
Bennett left ROH at the end of 2015, seeking greener pastures in Impact and eventually, WWE. It didn’t go so well for him and he is now back in Ring of Honor. In a recent interview with Matt Taven, Bennett called leaving ROH the biggest professional mistake of his life. Here is the quote, courtesy of Wrestle Zone:
“What happened five years ago, professionally was the biggest mistake of my life. Hands down. Without a doubt, that was the biggest mistake of my life. Personally, I had to do it. I had to find out who I was as a man. I had to go prove that Mike Bennett on his own could be Mike Bennett on his own. But hindsight’s always 20/20, and you look back, and you go, ‘What were you thinking? Why?’ I had everything I wanted right here.
Maybe it was ego. I don’t know, I mean that was five years ago. I’m a different person now than I was five years ago. I don’t want to say I regret it because I wouldn’t be who I am today if I didn’t take that chance.”
Bennett and Taven had been known as The Kingdom in Ring of Honor prior to Bennett’s departure. Bennett then returned to the promotion last week, reuniting with his old partner.
