Former WWE Star Shoots On Treatment Of Black Wrestlers

Over the last day or so, former NXT Cruiserweight Champion Lio Rush has taken to social media to comment on the treatment of black workers in professional wrestling.

In several emotional Twitter posts, the former WWE star spoke about the treatment of black wrestlers, stating that being African American and working is wrestling is “a lot harder than you think”.

Here’s exactly what Rush said on the matter on social media:

“Dear wrestling world, Being black IS NOT a gimmick. I repeat BEING BLACK IS NOT A GIMMICK.

“If you’re going to evolve championships, stage settings, corporate funding on pointless shit, the women’s division and everything else. Then this needs to change also. We are not for your convenience. We are not for your “good faith”publicity stunts.

“Being an African American professional wrestler is alot harder than you think and too be honest it’s exhausting as hell.

“What I’m tired of seeing and experiencing in the wrestling community are African Americans being villanized for false stories and minor mishaps. This isn’t random, it’s very current and it’s been current. I’m sick of it. The system isn’t just the problem…

“…It’s also the people tweeting and saying that African Americans have mental issues when they decide enough is enough and finally decide to speak out. It’s disgusting.

“Don’t be confused. Just read. There’s nothing confusing about it.

“I’m sick of the bulls*** and it pains me because i love this business so much. To the fans, do better. You’re the ones killing wrestling and making this s*** whack.

“STOP PAIRING UP BLACK PEOPLE BECUASE YOU DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THEM. STOP THAT S***!

“STOP GIVING AFRICAN AMERICANS TITLE REIGNS WHEN GLOBAL BLACK ISSUES ARE HAPPENING. WERE NOT STUPID. STOP THAT S***!

“If you can’t see that there’s a clear problem with the wrestling community regarding equal opportunity for African Americans…. then you’re apart of the problem and i need you to block and not support me right now. It’s very easy to not engage if you don’t f*** with someone.

“If you have a problem with what I’m saying. I don’t want your follow. I don’t want your racist mind, heart and energy anywhere around me. don’t want your love. I don’t want your business. I want nothing of your evil agendas. My fans don’t f*** with you either.”

Following on from this, Rush took to social media again the next day to encourage other African American wrestlers to speak up if they feel mistreated:

“From here on out, I encourage all African American professional wrestlers to start speaking up. Standing for what’s RIGHT. I want us to succeed. Don’t allow others to put labels on us as being “disrespectful, mentally challenged, angry, bitter, ect…our truth isn’t their truth.

“Oh yeah…. and @NaomiWWE should have been a 10x women’s champion by now.”

Rush’s 90-day non-compete clause expired last night following this WWE release in April 2020. Rush is now free to work for any promotion he likes, and could even show up at Impact Slammiversary later on today.
