A former WWE star has been crowned the new TNA Wrestling World Champion at tonight’s July 20 Slammiversary pay-per-view event.
Moose was the TNA World Champion going into Slammiversary, having held the title since Hard To Kill in January.
He put the title on the line tonight in a six-way elimination match against Joe Hendry, Nic Nemeth (formerly known as Dolph Ziggler in WWE), Josh Alexander, Steve Maclin and Frankie Kazarian.
Many fans went into tonight hoping Joe Hendry, who has made numerous WWE NXT appearances recently, would come out as TNA World Champion, but that wasn’t to be as he was eliminated by Josh Alexander.
Hendry had eliminated Moose right before that though, which guaranteed a title change.
The match was eventually won by Nic Nemeth, who is the new TNA World Champion.
Nemeth joined TNA at Hard To Kill in January 2024 having been released by WWE in September 2023.
This win means Nemeth joins a list that consists of himself, Christian Cage, Alberto El Patron, Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre, Kurt Angle, AJ Styles, Jeff Hardy and Rob Van Dam as people who have been world champions in both WWE and TNA Wrestling – or as it was also known for many years, IMPACT Wrestling – after the reformation of TNA’s world title in 2007.
