Former WWE Writer Says Company Didn’t Believe In Kofi Kingston

A former WWE writer has revealed that the WWE Title reign of Kofi Kingston was pretty much doomed from the moment it began.

As we’ve already covered on the site, Big E called the booking of Kingston “disrespectful” after he was squashed in about seven seconds by Brock Lesnar to lose the title, then moved straight back to the tag team scene with the rest of New Day.

Dave Schilling, former WWE writer, reacted to Big E’s comments saying that no-one with any influence in the company believed in Kingston to begin with. He wrote:

I was there. I saw it. No one who had any real sway believed in Kofi.

Perhaps even worse to hear is that, from the very start of Kingston’s run with the title, the plan was always for Lesnar to squash him to end his reign. Schilling tweeted:

The plan was Kofi getting squashed by Brock from DAY ONE of his title reign. DAY ONE!

Kofi Kingston held the title from WrestleMania 35 in April 2019 to the following October. He beat Daniel Bryan for the title and picked up retentions over Bryan, AJ Styles, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Dolph Ziggler, Samoa Joe and Randy Orton before Lesnar beat him on the SmackDown FOX debut show.
