Freddie Prinze Jr. Reveals Insight Into CM Punk Backstage Heat In AEW AEW

A former WWE writer has revealed insight into CM Punk’s backstage heat in All Elite Wrestling.

CM Punk has been a polarizing topic since reports circulated of his backstage issues within AEW, stemming from frustrations with Hangman Page ahead of their Double Or Nothing 2022 main event.

Speaking on the Wrestling With Freddie podcast, former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. revealed what some of his inside sources familiar with Punk’s situation told him about the current backstage drama.

In regards to how Punk is viewed by the AEW locker room, Prinze Jr. said:

“There’s two ways to look at it. It’s worked shoot and he’s trying to turn heel or there’s real stuff going on and it was receipt time. I happen to know it’s more the latter. Not everyone backstage loves CM Punk and it’s not just because of Colt Cabana. It’s because of the way they feel he’s behaved since he’s got there behind the curtain. It was actually something in Hangman’s Page promo that he said I’m not just defending the title, I’m defending it for all the people back there. Because a lot of people don’t feel like Punk shows anyone respect really. At least not the type of dignity people expect at work. When you don’t treat people as necessary parts of the pie, and I’ve seen this on a lot studios, people look at you a certain way. That’s what I’ve been told is kind of the stuff that’s been going on so Hangman Page said a lot of real stuff in that.”

As previously mentioned, Prinze Jr. also commented on Punk’s hatred of John Cena from his time in WWE.

Punk lost the AEW World Championship in a title unification match to Jon Moxley in under three minutes on the August 24 edition of Dynamite.
