Report: Two AEW Stars Confirmed For NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 AEW

Two AEW names have been confirmed for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17.

As per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, one AEW tag-team partnership is set to be attending.

Meltzer said:

“FTR is going to be at the Tokyo Dome, I got that confirmed.

“Originally there were going to be more but I don’t know. A lot of people seem to think the Will Ospreay/Shota Umino match is a set up for Will Ospreay and Moxley.

“I don’t know that that’s the case, but Shota did do a Death Rider (Moxley’s finisher) on Will Ospreay. And there is unfinished business from Will Ospreay and Moxley from when they were doing that feud earlier this year. So it’s possible.

“Heard Young Bucks at one point were going, but I don’t know if that’s still the case.

“So I think that there will be more people, but FTR’s the only one that I know for sure.”

NJPW Wrestle Kingdom will take place on January 4, 2023, in Tokyo, Japan.

This news follows a previous announcement that a World Tag Team League consisting of ten teams will run from November 21 and run until December 14.

The winners will get an opportunity for the IWGP World Tag Team championships at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17.

The titles are of course currently held by Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood of FTR.

FTR won the gold during AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door on June 26, 2022.

Their presence is significant as AEW Dynamite falls on the same night as Wrestle Kingdom 17.

A Super Junior Tag League will also take place to determine the next challengers for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Titles at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17, which are currently held by TJP and Francesco Akira.

Elsewhere on the card, Jay White will also be defending his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Kazuchika Okada.
