Gable Steveson is making sure he ends his collegiate wrestling career on top, winning his second straight NCAA Heavyweight National Championship at last night’s (March 19) tournament final in Detroit, Michigan.
In a statement by WWE.com, WWE described the moment for Steveson, saying:
“WWE’s Gable Steveson successfully defended his NCAA Championship Saturday night, defeating Arizona State’s Cohlton Schultz 6-2 to win the tournament final in Detroit.
The Olympic Gold Medalist has now won two NCAA National Titles and three Big Ten Championships as a member of the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. Steveson joined the WWE roster in September 2021 in the first-ever exclusive NIL agreement. Steveson would go on to be selected as a member of Raw in the 2021 WWE Draft.
Join the WWE Universe in congratulating Steveson on the incredible accomplishment and a legendary collegiate career!”
Losing just twice in his 91 matches as a collegiate athlete, the Olympic champion performed his infamous backflip on the mat one more time as he put on a performance for his last bout worthy of a future WWE star.
Steveson unlaced his wrestling boots and left them in the center of the mat in front of the crowd.
No words can describe this moment.
