The launch of AEW has led to the wrestling rumour mill going into overdrive as fans speculate over who will be next to join the brand new roster. As the promotion is starting from scratch, several names are expected to be announced over the coming weeks.
Most expected the promotion to feature the sort of talent seen at All In – indy standouts and free agents able to pick and choose their bookings. What was perhaps not expected was AEW going after legendary WWE hall of famers, yet that is seemingly the case.
Reports came out via Rajah that AEW has been give $100 million in financial backing by Tony Khan and they were looking to bring in wrestling legends to bolster the promotion’s profile. Bill Goldberg was one of the names surprisingly linked with the fledgling outfit.
Those rumours have picked up steam with the revelation that AEW has followed Goldberg on Twitter. So far the group has only followed wrestlers already signed to or linked with the promotion, so there may be something to this.
Goldberg has returned the favour and followed AEW, only the second wrestling promotion (other than WWE) that he follows.
If the promotion signs the former WCW World, WWE World Heavyweight and WWE Universal champ, it would be a huge statement of intent and a major indicator that there are funds available to go after the biggest and best talent.
Would you like to see Goldberg in AEW? Who else would you like to see wrestle for the promotion? Let us know in the comments below.
