Three years ago at WrestleMania 33, Goldberg and Brock Lesnar had a very fun hard-hitting match for the Universal Championship which surprised many fans for being so good.
However, this was not the first time the two big men went one-on-one on the “grandest stage of them all”, but it was certainly better than their first encounter.
At WrestleMania XX back in 2004, Goldberg and Lesnar went head-to-head for the very first time. However, fans completely turned on the match as they were aware both men were on their way out of the company after the show.
Goldberg has revealed that it wasn’t only WWE’s fanbase that were unhappy with the two wrestlers, but also Vince McMahon.
While speaking to Inside the Ropes, Goldberg spoke about Vince’s decision to have him win their first ‘Mania match 16 years ago. He also revealed that Mr McMahon wanted to “kill” both men prior to their encounter:
“I just wonder how he came to that decision. I really do because he wanted to kill me. I know he wanted to kill Brock. So, I guess he wanted to kill Brock more and that is why I won.”
While Brock Lesnar would return to WWE eight years later in 2012, it would take Goldberg twelve years to make his way back to Vince McMahon’s company following the disastrous ‘Mania XX match.
