The Great Muta (Keiji Muto) has explained his surprise appearance at AEW Rampage: Grand Slam.
During the September 23 episode, the Japanese wrestling legend sided with Sting & Darby Allin in their No DQ match against the House of Black, following interference from Julia Hart.
It was later announced that Sting will be at the ‘Great Muta Final “Bye Bye’ event on January 22 2023, participating in Keiji Muto’s final match as the Great Muta.
Speaking with Wrestling Inc, the Great Muta noted that ‘the gates of the demon world’ allowed him to enter AEW, noting:
“When the gates of the demon world opened up to me, suddenly, I was in AEW’s ring. I saw Sting, and knew that if I saved him, he would come to my retirement match in Yokohama.”
Which name do you prefer, The Gates of the Demon World, or Forbidden Door?
AEW President Tony Khan has confirmed that he originally wanted the Great Muta to make an appearance at the September 4 All Out pay-per-view.
Khan recently announced a working partnership between AEW and Pro Wrestling NOAH, which you can read more about right here.
