Former Champion Says Legendary Run Cannot Be Compared To Roman Reigns’ WWE

Gunther has spoken about comparisons between his run with the NXT UK title and Roman Reigns’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship run.

Gunther, then going under the name WALTER, held the NXT UK Championship for 870 days, winning the belt at NXT TakeOver: New York from Pete Dunne in 2019, and dropping it to Ilja Dragunov at NXT TakeOver 36 in 2021.

Reigns has held the Universal Championship since winning it from The Fiend at Payback 2020 in a triple threat match that also included Braun Strowman.

He recently reached 800 days with the title.

He unified the title with the WWE World Championship upon winning it from Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38, to create the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

Gunther, who is currently the WWE Intercontinental Champion, has responded to comparisons between himself and Reigns in an interview with Steve Fall on Ten Count:

“Obviously I see that comparison a lot. I think it’s not comparable. I think it’s a very different situation.

“NXT UK compared to the main roster, obviously the competition is not on the same level.

“The frequency of shows is by far not on the same level, and I held it during the pandemic time.

“I would say I had a title reign where it was quality over quantity.

“I didn’t have that many matches, but the matches I had were entertaining and good, while Roman, he’s not there that often at the moment anymore, but before he was always present, traveling up and down the country, doing all those live events as the champion.

“So I think those two title reigns are not really comparable and I don’t compare [them].”

Reigns recently defended his title again Logan Paul at WWE Crown Jewel 2022.
