NXT star Gunther has addressed the fan backlash to his WWE ring name change.
At the end of the January 18 edition of NXT, the former WALTER revealed that he will now go by Gunther.
Speaking with Nick Hausman of Wrestling Inc, Gunther argued that wrestling fans often react negatively to change.
When asked whether the fan backlash bothered him, Gunther said:
“Not at all to be honest. If it would be the other way around, and it would be Gunther before and Walter now, it would have been the same uproar. A lot of people react negatively to change. Change is normal in life, and it’s part of it, and we have to go with it.”
Gunther has had a dominant run in NXT since arriving on the US brand in January, only losing his first singles bout on NXT 2.0 on Tuesday, when unsuccessfully challenging for Bron Breakker’s NXT Championship.
