WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER has revealed his true feelings about his feud with Jey Uso heading into WrestleMania.
Pretty much as soon as Jey Uso won the Royal Rumble at the start of February, it was clear that he would be challenging GUNTHER at WrestleMania.
With WrestleMania taking place on April 19 and 20, that means over two-and-a-half months of building to a match that everyone already knows is happening, which GUNTHER admits has been challenging, and the fans response has reflected that.
However, the storyline picked up over the past couple of weeks with GUNTHER’s attack on Jimmy Uso and Jey’s promo on WWE Raw this week.
Commenting on whether he’s happy with how things have been going, in an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, GUNTHER said:
“I am happy, but it was a challenge because it was a 10-week build. To really find something that excites you for 10 weeks is hard, especially with all the other stuff going on. But I think we managed it very well. The last two weeks I think we got it en route where it’s supposed to be.
“It’s always a little bit like… what I think would be the best idea, that doesn’t always happen. That’s the nature of how the business works, and then you’ve got to be mature enough to realize that we do stuff every week and there’s always a better idea for something.
“At the end of the day, it’s not about my personal taste or what I would like, it’s about what’s best for the product at that point, overall.
“In that regard, I think we managed it very well, and going into Mania, I think we set the tone very well.”
