There has been yet another new champion crowned at tonight’s WWE SummerSlam as GUNTHER won the World Heavyweight Championship.
Damian Priest looked to defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against GUNTHER, despite clearly being distracted by the earlier betrayal of Rhea Ripley by Dominik Mysterio.
It would prove to be more Judgment Day turmoil that was pivotal in the Priest vs GUNTHER match, as Finn Balor showed up at ringside.
After a series of moves from Damian Priest led to him attempting a pin on GUNTHER, Balor reached into the ring and put GUNTHER’s ankle on the rope to prevent the pinfall – essentially costing Priest the match.
With Priest now distracted by Balor’s betrayal, GUNTHER would go on to get Priest in a submission hold.
Despite Priest resisting for a while, it was once again his attempt at going after Balor that would distract him and he was caught again by GUNTHER with a powerbomb and another submission hold.
Priest then faded out of consciousness, and GUNTHER picked up the victory and his first WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
