WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER has now reached a big milestone with his title reign, ahead of potentially breaking a major record.
Since winning the Intercontinental Title, WWE has pushed GUNTHER as a dominant force.
The Ring General has defended his gold across SmackDown and Raw, defeating top WWE names to retain the title and remain undefeated in singles action on the main roster.
GUNTHER’s IC Title reign began on the June 10, 2022 edition of SmackDown, when he defeated Ricochet to win his first championship on the WWE main roster.
This means that Saturday marks one full year of GUNTHER as WWE Intercontinental Champion.
GUNTHER has shared a photo on social media of himself celebrating this major achievement.
The Imperium leader captioned the post:
365 🍾
GUNTHER is now the fifth wrestler in WWE history to hold the Intercontinental Championship for over a year in a single reign.
The other stars who have achieved this feat include Honky Tonk Man, Pedro Morales, Don Muraco and Randy Savage.
Since winning the gold, GUNTHER has hit a number of big milestones, and has notably become the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of the 21st century.
If GUNTHER is still the champion on September 6, he will have officially broken the Honky Tonk Man’s 454-day record for the longest single Intercontinental Championship reign in history.
