CM Punk has been the topic of all wrestling discourse over the past 48 hours, as you would have seen if you have entered the Twittersphere since Wednesday night.
The latest update is that AEW have ‘tentatively’ planned a return for Punk at the June 21 show in Chicago.
AEW will need as many top names on their roster as possible heading into All In at Wembley Stadium this August.
WWE Hall of Famer Booker T spoke about Punk and All In on his Hall of Fame podcast, where he praised Punk for pitched for a match betwee Punk and AEW World Champion MJF.
He said:
“If I’m thinking about Wembley, and I’m thinking about MJF, I’m definitely thinking about CM Punk. I mean, there’s a guy that everybody’s thinking about tentatively, potentially coming back and making that thing happen. There’s a lot of talk on the internet right now.
“I was reading FTR was saying that Punk’s the best in the business and he’s ready to come back. Punk’s got a spokesperson pushing for him to get back into it. That’s a good thing. So, I don’t know, man. Wembley, that’s a big stadium, so they’re going to need some firepower to take into that stadium to really pull that thing off.”
Along with Punk, former WWE Universal Champion Goldberg is a free agent that could be brought in for the show.
Booker’s co-host Brad Gilmore suggested to bring Goldberg in for the show as an attraction, which Booker agreed with, though said that the AEW fan base may not be in favour of Goldberg arriving in the company.
