WWE Hall Of Famer Says Sgt. Slaughter’s Gimmick ‘Isn’t Sacred’ Following Lacey Evans Controversy

WWE Hall Of Famer Says Sgt. Slaughter’s Gimmick ‘Isn’t Sacred’ Following Lacey Evans Controversy WWE

WWE Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter was the centre of controversy this week surrounding the recent repackaging of WWE star Lacey Evans.

Lacey returned to WWE television on last week’s episode of SmackDown, where she was defeated by Zelina Vega in a Money In The Bank qualifying match.

After the show, Slaughter’s daughter took to Twitter to run down Evans’ new persona, claiming her to be a ‘faker’ and ripping off her legendary father, which Evans responded to.

It was later reported that WWE had reached out to Sarge to appear in the vignettes hyping up Lacey’s return back in January, but he ‘adamantly declined’ the opportunity.

Speaking about the situation on the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T said that it ‘doesn’t matter’ is Slaughter has claim to the character, ad that it’s not ‘sacred’ to be reused.

He said:

“It doesn’t matter. I don’t think Sarge has any say in whether someone has a certain gimmick or not, if they wanna do an army gimmick or not, if they wanna do the Cobra Clutch or not. That’s just not the way the business works.

“On the other hand, some things [are] almost like [too] sacred to be rehashed or anything like that. I just don’t think, where the world is right now, we’re gonna need a savior like Sgt. Slaughter coming in to ‘save America.'”

Lacey Evans took to Twitter after her loss to Vega to explain why Zelina’s victory should be considered ‘cheating’.

Two more Women’s Money In The Bank qualifiers are set for this week’s SmackDown, with Bayley facing off with Mia Yim and IYO SKY facing Shotzi.
