A WWE star turned heel during the main event of tonight’s episode of NXT, costing a fellow roster member a major championship opportunity.
Just days after winning the Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge Match at WWE Deadline, Je’Von Evans dropped a bombshell announcement during the opening segment of tonight’s WWE NXT.
Rather than waiting until New Year’s Evil for his guaranteed NXT Championship opportunity against Oba Femi, Je’Von Evans instead challenged “The Ruler” to a title match in the main event of tonight’s show.
By doing so, Evans leapfrogged former NXT Champion Ricky Saints in line for the next title opportunity, with “Absolute” laying his own claim to challenge Oba Femi before Evans entered the equation.
While Saints was initially attempting to talk Evans out of challenging Femi, he eventually came around to the idea and told Je’Von to “get his” and win the big one at long last.
Unfortunately for Evans, Saints’ words were hollow, as the former AEW star would re-emerge later in the night and cost Je’Von his title opportunity in cruel fashion.
After taking Femi to his limits and hitting him with several Frog Splashes and Cutters, Evans seemingly had the champion beat, only for Saints to drag the referee out of the ring at the last second.
After noticing what he did, Evans laid out Ricky with a dive on the outside, but Femi took advantage of the distraction and won the match moments later with a Fall From Grace.
The win not only ensured that Oba Femi’s second NXT Title reign wouldn’t be a short one, but it also means that “The Ruler” will still be heading to Saturday Night’s Main Event to face off with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes one-on-one.
