It was reported towards the end of 2019 that NXT stars were told by Triple H and other WWE officials to “be ready” for WrestleMania where they were expected to have a strong presence.
This certainly makes sense. With the war ongoing with AEW, WWE would likely want to give NXT stars the biggest platform, and they don’t come much bigger than WrestleMania.
Of the two matches currently announced for WrestleMania, one will see Rhea Ripley will defend her NXT Women’s Championship against Charlotte Flair. However, Bianca Belair may be added to the match closer to the show.
However, it appears that we should not expect to see more NXT matches added to the WrestleMania card as we approach the “show of shows”.
On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer is reporting that Flair vs. Ripley will be the only match featuring at NXT star on the WrestleMania card:
“There’s 14 matches on the card and there are no other NXT guys on the card unless, of course, plans change which they obviously can at any time. The card that’s out doesn’t have any other NXT personalities other than Rhea Ripley.”
This would certainly make sense, as it was reported over the weekend that NXT fan-favourite Keith Lee is expected to be part of NXT TakeOver: Tampa Bay on 04/04 but not WrestleMania the following day.
Speaking of NXT, it has been reported that a WWE legend and current Raw star has been offered a role at Full Sail if he decides to re-sign with WWE instead of moving to AEW.
