Last year at WrestleMania, Ronda Rousey, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch went on last as a women’s match main evented the big pay-per-view for the very first time.
It seems like history might be made again this year as a report emerged yesterday suggesting WWE was planning on having Becky Lynch vs. Shayna Baszler as the first women’s singles match to main event the pay-per-view.
However, Fightful is reporting that while Baszler vs. Lynch was set to be the main event of WrestleMania at one point, backstage officials are now pushing for Roman Reigns and Goldberg to close the show:
“At one point, Becky Lynch vs. Shayna Baszler was set to main event night one. However, there is word there was a push for Reigns and Goldberg to be in that spot.”
So it would appear that if WWE higher-ups get their way, then Goldberg and Roman Reigns will be main eventing the Saturday ‘Mania show.
While this is unfortunate for Becky and Shayna, it does mean that it is likely we’ll see Brock Lesnar and Drew McIntyre will main event the Sunday portion of WrestleMania, with Drew winning the WWE title hopefully being the closing visual.
