Here’s who is reportedly running NXT UK creative, now that Shawn Michaels is running NXT 2.0 in the US.
Michaels has been running things backstage for NXT 2.0 since Triple H suffered a cardiac event last September. The WWE Hall of Famer had been working as an NXT UK director and producer before then.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that he believes that the ‘former PROGRESS guys’ are still in charge of NXT UK creative, noting:
“The former PROGRESS guys I think were doing it the last I heard.”
PROGRESS co-founder Jim Smallman reportedly became the head-writer for NXT UK in September 2020. At the time, Smallman was still answering to Matt Bloom and Shawn Michaels. It is unclear to what extent his role has changed since Michaels began running NXT 2.0, but Meltzer’s report indicates that he has had an increased role since September 2021.
NXT UK is arguably WWE’s most underrated brand, with an hour-long show airing every Thursday. Several significant angles were filmed during the most recent set of tapings from BT Studios, which you can read more about right here.
