Here’s Why Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez Was So Short

Brock Lesnar retained his WWE Championship against former two-time UFC Champion Cain Velasquez at Crown Jewel yesterday in just over 2 minutes.

Many has expected the match to go far longer and for Velasquez to get some offense in, but Brock quickly locked him in a Kimura and Cain quickly tapped.

It was known prior to the match that Velasquez would be taking time out after the match to undergo knee surgery. He has worn a knee brace in each appearance since his debut at the beginning of October.

However, it is now being reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the knee injury was far more serious than expected, which is why the match was so much shorter than anticipated.

The feeling is that Velasquez needs to undergo surgery as soon as possible, which meant he had to be heavily protected in the match. He did take an F-5 after the match, but that won’t have affected his knees.

He is still scheduled to tag with Rey Mysterio at a Mexico house show on November 30, but it now seems likely that this appearance will be cancelled.

In other related news, Tyson Fury has said that the original plan was for him to face Brock Lesnar, but as soon as Velasquez agreed to sign his 3-year deal, Strowman was chosen as Fury’s opponent for the show instead.
