Higher-Ups Reportedly Did Not Approve David Starr Stepping On WWE UK Championship

Last month during OTT Wrestling’s ‘WrestleRama 3’ event, the ever-opinionated David Starr clashed with WWE United Kingdom Champion WALTER in a non-title match.

A spot during the bout saw Starr hold the WWE United Kingdom Championship before dropping it to the floor, stamping on it and dubbing WALTER a “sell out”. The spot garnered a standing ovation from the Irish crowd.

Pete Dunne held the WWE United Kingdom Championship for a staggering 685 days before WALTER defeated him at NXT Takeover: New York over WrestleMania 35 weekend.

Upon seeing the spot, Dunne took to Twitter to clearly share his unhappiness over Starr’s actions.

It has since been reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Pete Dunne isn’t the only figure who was upset by the spot.

The report suggests that WWE did not give their approval for Starr to step on the championship during the OTT show. It is also noted by Meltzer that no one within the company was made aware of the angle beforehand.

The decision was reportedly made by WALTER and David Starr during the match as they wanted to “shock the fans in attendance”. The report also notes that WWE higher-ups were rather unhappy upon seeing the spot, with many viewing it as disrespectful.
