Hikaru Shida Breaks Silence On Racially Insensitive Commentary

Former AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida has commented on having her accent mocked by Willie Urbina a few days ago.

Urbina, one of AEW’s Spanish announcers at the time, didn’t realise his mic was on and mocked Shida’s Japanese accent, which resulted in him being fired the next day.

Shida has now taken to Twitter to address the situation, writing:

I didn’t wanna talk about this before my big day, so let me tell you now. I don’t give a s**t what other people say about my race because I love it and I proud of it, and because I know which is fool. I don’t even feel anger. So don’t need to worry about me Thank you.

It goes without saying that Urbina’s actions have no place in wrestling, or anywhere for that matter, so props to AEW for the swift response.

Hikaru Shida dropped the title to Britt Baker at Double Or Nothing this past Sunday having held the title for 372 days, making her the longest reigning champion in AEW history.
