Hiromu Takahashi Vacates IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship

New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced that Hiromu Takahashi has vacated his IWGP Junior Heavyweight title due to injury. New Japan also announced that the title will be awarded to the winner of a four-man tournament.

The IWGP Junior Heavyweight tournament will include Kushida, BUSHI, Marty Scrull and Will Ospreay. Kushida and Bushi will face-off on September 23 at the Destruction in Kobe event. Will Ospreay and Marty Scrull will face-off on September 30 at the Fighting Spirit Unleashed event. The winners of those two matches will face-off for the title on October 8 at the King of Pro Wrestling event.

Hiromu was injured in a match at the G1 Special against Dragon Lee. A botched move resulted in an uncomfortable landing on Hiromu’s neck, he finished the match but collapsed later backstage. It is believed that Hiromu suffered a broken neck. He is likely to recover but the expected timeframe for return is believed to be 9-12 months.
