A former WWE star has pitched a match against AJ Styles, noting that he is currently unbeaten against Styles in his career.
Styles recently announced that he’ll be retiring in 2026, but there’s one name who’d have hoped to have something of a ‘finish the story’ match against Styles if it was possible.
That man is former WWE star Jimmy Wang Yang, real name James Yun, who had matches with Styles in WCW and TNA.
On the first ever TNA show in June 2002, the first match saw Yang team up with Jorge Estrada and Sonny Siaki as the Flying Elvises in a win against Styles, Jerry Lynn and Low Ki.
Over a year prior to that, they’d had a tag match on WCW Thunder where Yang teamed with Kaz Hayashi to defeat Styles and Air Paris.
In a new interview with Wentworth Bros Entertainment, Yang was asked who he’d want to face if he was to return to WWE. He replied:
“Definitely AJ (he’d want to face in WWE), because we have such history. I’m actually undefeated against AJ, that’s another trivia question for you, he’s never beat the Yang.
“WCW, TNA, wherever else, but never in WWE, but that’s my boy, my Georgia, so that’s who I would like to have like ‘finish the story’.”

Yang most recently wrestled in January 2025 at Warriors of Wrestling New Beginnings in a three-way with TJ Marconi and Isaiah Wolf.
