A recent report has revealed how WWE internally views the NXT brand, following Karrion Kross’ showing on Raw earlier this week.
On the July 19 episode of Raw, NXT Champion Karrion Kross was pinned by Jeff Hardy in his debut match for the brand. Following the show, it was noted that Kross’ loss “felt like a message being sent” to NXT directly from Vince McMahon.
As per Jon Alba, NXT is still viewed as a developmental division within WWE. Noting that the report contradicts Triple H’s recent comments about the brand, Alba tweeted:
“Sources in #WWE tell me #WWENXT is officially viewed internally as ‘developmental,’ rather than the third brand as Paul Levesque’s team has promoted over the past few years.”
In recent years, Triple H has promoted NXT as a third brand alongside Raw and SmackDown. NXT was even featured during Survivor Series 2019, with the brand finishing the night victorious over the “main roster” shows.
Numerous NXT stars have also noted that they feel like NXT is more than just developmental. Former NXT Champion Adam Cole has revealed that he believes he has a lot more to do on the brand before potentially debuting on Raw and SmackDown.
Johnny Gargano has also argued that NXT should feature in future WWE Drafts, noting that more main roster stars should be traded to the Gold Brand.
