Huge New Japan Pro Wrestling Championship Match Set Up

It appears we have the next challenger for Hiromu Takahashi’s IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. At today’s Summer Struggle event, Taiji Ishimori submitted Takahashi in the main event. Afterward, Ishimori got on the mic and issued the challenge for Takahashi’s title.

“This is official now, right? Me and Hiromu for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, make the match already. But can you actually wrestle like this?”

The two have been clashing since Dominion when Ishimori attacked Tetsuya Naito. Takahashi made the save for Naito that night before entering into a program with EVIL. Now, Takahashi will have to turn his attention back to Ishimori and his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship.

Ishimori and Takahashi have an impressive history together. While they don’t have many matches in their history, they did clash in the Best of the Super Juniors Final in 2018. Takahashi managed to pick up the win that night and the match was rated 5.5 stars by Dave Meltzer.

Takahashi hasn’t defended his title since New Japan returned last month. He made it to the semi-finals of the New Japan Cup before his feud with EVIL. His last title defense came against Ryu Lee at The New Beginning In Osaka back in February.
