Tonight’s June 9 episode of WWE Raw in Phoenix, Arizona played host to a huge title change in the show’s main event.
At WrestleMania 41 in April, Jey Uso won the World Heavyweight Championship from GUNTHER, who had been champion since SummerSlam 2024.
Tonight, GUNTHER had his return match and challenged Uso for the title.
The match came two nights after Uso had teamed with Cody Rhodes to pick up the win against Logan Paul and WWE Champion John Cena at Money in the Bank thanks to a returning Ron Killings (R-Truth).
In tonight’s main event, GUNTHER got his win back and his title back, defeating Jey Uso to become a two-time World Heavyweight Champion.
Despite an expectation from some fans, there was no Goldberg appearance to set up a rumored match between himself and GUNTHER.
There was also no sign of Mr Money in the Bank Seth Rollins during or after the match, who some fans thought might have cashed in tonight, just two nights after winning the contract.
Uso’s reign comes to an end at 52 days.
GUNTHER is the first two-time winner of this version of the World Heavyweight Championship since it came into effect in May 2023.
The other previous champions are Rollins, Drew McIntyre (who only held it for about five minutes) and Damian Priest.
