Huge Wrestle Kingdom 13 Matches Announced

Wrestle Kingdom 13 is now just under two months away and New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced four matches for their biggest show of the year. New Japan held a press conference in Japan on November 5 where the wrestlers were able to discuss their upcoming matches.

The biggest match announced at the press conference was the rematch for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship between Chris Jericho and Tetsuya Naito. Jericho won the title from Naito at Dominion in June and now will have to defeat the leader of Los Ingobernables de Japon if he wishes to remain champion.

Most recently, Jericho defended the title at Power Struggle on November 3 against Naito’s LIJ stablemate EVIL. After the match, Jericho continued to assault Evil and Naito ran in to make the save. The match will likely be the semi-main event of the show.

The second singles match announced is one that has been building since the first night of the G1 Climax. Kazuchika Okada will look to exact his revenge on Jay White after White turned on Chaos to join the Bullet Club at Destruction in Kobe in September. White defeated Okada on the first night of the G1 and declared himself the true leader of Chaos.

In the months that followed the relationship between White and Chaos became strained, leading to the climactic moment when White and Gedo turned on Okada. The two brawled at Power Struggle leading to White challenging Okada to a one on one match.

Taiji Ishimori will finally get his shot at the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship when he faces champion Kushida at Wrestle Kingdom 13. Ishimori returned to New Japan in May and made it to the finals of the Best of the Super Juniors tournament where he was defeated by Hiromu Takahashi. Since then, Ishimori has found his place within the Bullet Club and his assault on Kushida at Power Struggle has earned him the title match he has been looking for since his re-debut.

The winners of the Super Junior Tag League where decided at Power Struggle as Sho and Yoh won the tournament for the second consecutive year. Sho and Yoh defeated Bushi & Shingo Takagi and the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru in a three-way match to win the tournament. Now, the same three-way match will take place at Wrestle Kingdom 13 for the championships.

These four matches will join the already announced main event of Kenny Omega vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. With these five matches announced for New Japan‘s climactic show, more match announcements will be forthcoming as we move ever closer to January 4th.
