‘I Think They Can Give Us a Great Match’ – Jim Ross on Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels

Jim Ross believes an Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels match in 2018 or 2019 would be great despite their advancing ages and inactivity.

Speaking on The Ross Report, the WWE commentary legend said the 53-year-olds could still tear the house down if their much-rumored bout does happen.

“So anyone that thinks that Shawn and The Undertaker couldn’t have a good match, think again please,” said Ross. “And if the glass is always going to be a half empty, they’re not in their prime. Well, no s**t. They’re not in their prime. Wow, what a revelation.

“Of course they’re not in their prime physically. Mentally, I suggest to you, they’re probably the best they’ve ever been mentally to tell a story, to bring you in, to captivate you, to capture your attention.

“It’s done psychologically more often than not. I just think that they can give us a great match if and when it’s going to happen.”

The Undertaker has been a part-time WWE performer for several years and Michaels hasn’t wrestled at all since he lost his Career vs Streak match to The Dead Man at WrestleMania XXVI on March 28 2010. The Hall of Famer has remained faithful to his retirement vow ever since.

The match will forever go down in history as one of the most well-crafted stories, filled with ups and downs and – excuse the pun – heartbreak.

Since this legendary match, Shawn has only been seen in a WWE ring on a few occasions. Until recently.

On September 3, Michaels made a special appearance on Raw to promote the match between Triple H and The Undertaker at Super Show-Down. All seemed well until the famous gong went off, the lights cut out and The Undertaker made his slow ominous walk to the ring to confront him.

Most notable in the pair’s memorable exchange of words was the angle in how it all played out. It all felt similar to the Taker vs. Triple H Hell in a Cell match from WrestleMania XXVII where HBK was the referee.

This is interesting because According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, the ads in Melbourne are promoting that Michaels will be the special referee for ‘Taker vs. Triple H.

This would make for an interesting match to see with the odds stacked against Taker as we could see Michaels leaning in favour of HHH, or will Michaels play it fair down the middle?

What are your thoughts on the match? Will Michaels call it down in the middle or side with HHH?

Rumors have since abounded that Michaels will return to in-ring competition in some kind of tag team match, with The Undertaker on the opposite side of the ring, possibly when WWE returns to Saudi Arabia in November.

Could the Super Showdown match between Undertaker and HHH setup a potential return match for the HBK?
