Bear in mind that the headline says if, and that we are by no means saying that CM Punk actually is returning to pro-wrestling, because let’s face it, he probably isn’t.
Despite retiring from wrestling in 2014, CM Punk remains one of the most popular wrestlers in history, and you can still hear his name chanted in WWE arenas if the crowd gets bored.
Many assumed when AEW was announced that Punk would simply return to the ring alongside his good friend Cody Rhodes, but that doesn’t seem to be the case at all.
It seems that if he is to make a shock return, it will be with WWE, the company he left and then sued the doctor of.
In a recent appearance at Starrcast, Punk admitted that he would take a phone call from WWE if the company was to show interest, but that he wouldn’t actively be seeking a conversation.
In the most recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that the general feeling right now is that if there was a return, it would be with WWE as that’s where Punk would be able to make the most money.
“It’s basically the feeling that even though WWE went after him hard with the lawsuit that cost him a ton of money, like seven figures, that WWE is the place he feels he can make the most money.
“If C.M. Punk is to come back to pro wrestling, it looks like it will be here [WWE].”
