Ilja Dragunov Vacates NXT UK Championship, Tournament Begins

The injury curse has struck once again, this time hitting current NXT United Kingdom Champion Ilja Dragunov, who has been forced to relinquish the championship due to injury.

While the nature of the injury is still unclear, Dragunov appeared at the tapings in a protective boot and vacated the title, with an eight-man tournament beginning to crown the new champion.

This comes not even a month after NXT UK Tag Team Champions Ashton Smith and Oliver Carter were also forced to vacate their championship due to an injury suffered by Smith, with NXT 2.0’s Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen taking home the vacant titles.

Carter, as well as Trent Seven, Mark Coffey and Tyler Bate, were victorious in the first round of the tournament and will advance to the semi-finals.
