It is not every day that an interpromotional challenge gets made. However, today is one of those days. Alex Shelley is currently one half of the Impact Tag Team Champions but that hasn’t stopped him from issuing a challenge for the NXT Tag Team Championships.
Shelley wrote on Twitter today that he is a free agent and it could be time for a Time Splitters reunion. In the same tweet, he said he and KUSHIDA should challenge the new NXT Tag Team Champions Breezango. Here is the tweet:
@KUSHIDA_0904, I am free agent bro. Time Splitters challenge to @MmmGorgeous and @WWEFandango? In @WWENXT? Let’s go!

Alex Shelley returned to Impact Wrestling last month to win the tag titles alongside Chris Sabin. The Motor City Machine Guns are still the reigning champions, having knocked off the previous champs The North. By the looks of Shelley’s tweet, it seems he is currently wrestling without a contract.
Shelley and KUSHIDA were a team in New Japan Pro Wrestling as the Time Splitters for many years. Eventually, Shelley left the promotion and the team dissolved. However, they did reunite for the Dusty Rhodes Classic earlier this year. Unfortunately, they were eliminated in the first round by the Grizzled Young Veterans. This was Shelley’s only appearance on NXT TV.
Breezango just defeated Imperium to win the NXT Tag Team Championships last night. They had won a three-way tag match at NXT Takeover: XXX to earn the shot. It seems unlikely that their first challengers would be the Time Splitters but anything is possible.
