IMPACT EVP Scott D’Amore Comments On Mickie James WWE Royal Rumble Announcement

On Friday’s (January 7) edition of SmackDown, a number of former WWE stars were announced for the women’s Royal Rumble match on January 29.

Among the names announced was Mickie James, the current IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts Champion. IMPACT Executive Vice-President Scott D’Amore has since confirmed that IMPACT, WWE and James came to an agreement over an appearance at Royal Rumble.

Confirming that everything has been signed off on, D’Amore said:

“WWE wanted it, Mickie wanted it and IMPACT Wrestling’s philosophy is always to work with other major promotions to create buzz for the fans. Everything is signed and agreed with WWE and IMPACT Wrestling – the only question is whether or not Mickie will enter one of WWE’s most historic annual matches as the reigning Knockouts World Champion.

“There’s never been a time like this for wrestling fans. In a 12 month period, IMPACT Wrestling has worked with NWA, AAA, New Japan, AEW and now WWE. IMPACT Wrestling is the nexus of the forbidden door era.”

On Twitter, D’Amore pointed out that WWE acknowledged James as a World Champion, writing:

“Mickie James has @IMPACTWRESTLING’s blessing to carry the Knockouts World Title belt into the Royal Rumble. And, as you saw, @WWE respects her as a World Champion BUT, Mickie has to get by Deonna Purrazzo at #HardToKill tomorrow night or she goes to the Rumble 6lbs lighter…”

James will defend her gold against Deonna Purrazzo in a Texas Death Match at Hard To Kill on Saturday night.
