An IMPACT Wrestling star has discussed comparisons fans have made between himself and former WWE Champion AJ Styles.
At Sacrifice last night, Ace Austin pinned TJP to win the IMPACT X Division Championship. This is his second time holding the title.
Austin has recently spoken about being compared to an iconic IMPACT alumnus. Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Austin noted that he is constantly compared to AJ Styles.
Forming the theory that it’s because he is also one of the best wrestlers in the world, Austin assured fans that he is not stuck in Styles’ shadow.
Here is the full quote:
“I’m constantly compared to AJ Styles, and I’m compared to the best because I am the best, but it’s like your earlier question. I’m compared to him, but I am not in his shadow. I’m creating something special my own way.”
Signing with IMPACT (FKA TNA) in 2002, Styles would become one of the most beloved wrestlers in the promotion. Wrestling his last match for IMPACT in December 2013, AJ Styles will forever be remembered as one of the company’s greatest success stories.
Recently former WWE talent Lillian Garcia stated that she thinks that Styles would be successful if he transitioned to MMA.
