Impact Wrestling Promising Former World Champion To Return Over WrestleMania Weekend

Impact Wrestling is advertising the return of a former World Champion to headline its WrestleMania weekend show United We Stand.

So who could it be? Of the 24 men who have held the title, we can rule out 10 who are now in WWE (Kurt Angle, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Jeff Hardy, Bobby Roode, Eric Young, Lashley, EC3, Matt Hardy, and Drew McIntyre).

Current Impact Champion Johnny Impact and current roster members Pentagon Jr., Eli Drake and Eddie Edwards would obviously not be returning to the promotion, so they do not come into the running either.

That leaves the following 10 names who COULD be the mystery man:

  • Sting
  • Mick Foley
  • RVD
  • Mr. Anderson
  • James Storm
  • Austin Aries
  • Bully Ray
  • Chris Sabin
  • Nick Aldis
  • Alberto El Patron

Sting and Foley are both retired and are believed to be under WWE Legends deals anyway, which would prevent them from appearing on the show. Impact are unlikely to work with Alberto El Patron again after he no-showed last year’s WrestleMania weekend show and was subsequently fired.

So it could be any of the remaining seven names, in theory, with Bully Ray and Austin Aries perhaps the two most likely candidates.

Impact are also promising “extreme icons” in attendance, one of whom is almost certainly new creative team member Tommy Dreamer. The other may well be Raven, who has appeared on Impact television recently, but there are a host of others who fit that bill.

United We Stand takes place on Thursday, April 4 at the Rahway Rec Center in New Jersey and will air live on Twitch.

Who do you think the returning former Impact World Champion will be? Let us know in the comments below.
