Injured WWE Star Set For ‘Major Role’ Upon In-Ring Return

A legendary WWE star is reportedly set for a “major role” upon his anticipated in-ring return from injury.

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio has been out of action with since suffering a torn groin during a six-man tag team match on the SmackDown before WrestleMania 41 on April 18.

Throughout his absence Mysterio has made sporadic appearances at AAA events, including WWE Worlds Collide in Las Vegas on Friday, September 12, where he reluctantly raised the hand of his son Dominik Mysterio after he defeated El Hijo del Vikingo for the AAA Mega Championship.

With Rey’s return reportedly drawing near, a new report from WrestleVotes Radio has shared details of WWE’s plans for the three-time world champion.

According to the report, WWE want to feature Rey in a “major role” as a part of the ongoing AAA rollout once he’s able to return from injury.

In addition to this, WWE are said to be considering holding one more AAA streaming event during a WWE PLE weekend before the end of the year, with speculation surrounding Survivor Series, which is being hosted in Mysterio’s hometown of San Diego on November 29:

“We are told those in WWE want to feature Rey Mysterio in a major role as part of this new, ongoing AAA rollout once he’s back healthy and in action. Mysterio, who underwent surgery back in April, is said to be progressing well.

“In addition, this is kind of a two-for-one here, sources indicate WWE is considering at least one more AAA streaming event before the end of the year, with speculation pointing to Survivor Series weekend in San Diego now.”

It’s not yet known when Rey will make his return but we will provide updates on this and the aforementioned potential AAA show as more updates become available.
