Last night’s Raw saw Seth Rollins defend his Intercontinental Championship, yet again, after barely retaining against Elias at Money in The Bank. Open Challenges have become a huge part of Rollins’ title run, and it was Dolph Ziggler that would step up to face ‘The Architect’ this time.
After a back and forth match, it was Ziggler that shockingly picked up the win as he reversed a roll up from Rollins into a roll up of his own to get the three count. There was a degree of irony to the finish as Ziggler sneakily grabbed the tights to get win, just as Rollins had similarly done in-route to his victory against Elias.
It has been confirmed that Rollins will invoke his rematch clause next week on Raw with another one on one encounter against Ziggler. With Ziggler and McIntyre previously eyeing up the Raw Tag Team Titles, it’s surprising that Ziggler picked up the win. This undoubtedly leaves McIntyre in a strange position as a singles competitor given his loyalties to ‘The Show Off,’ but only time will tell how long his reign will last.
Rollins dropping the belt presumably positions him to pursue the long rumored Universal Championship match with Brock Lesnar this summer. If he does come up short next week, though, he could very well join Bobby Lashley and Roman Reigns in the number one contenders match at Extreme Rules
