Last night on the special “Winter is Coming” episode of AEW Dynamite, the wrestling world was shocked as WCW icon and former WWE star Sting debuted for the promotion to save Darby Allin and Cody Rhodes.
It was actually speculated that Sting was going to debut for AEW last month at the Full Gear pay-per-view, potentially in a segment with Darby Allin, after his merchandise was pulled from WWE Shop.
AEW has since announced that Sting has signed a multi-year deal with the promotion, and Fightful Select has provided some additional information about what people within AEW knew about the debut beforehand.
The site is reporting that people they’ve spoken to within AEW had no clue that Sting would be debuting on last night’s show, with the former WCW Heavyweight Champion not being seen at Daily’s Place the day of the show.
The report does go on to explain that some people within AEW were aware that Sting would be appearing, with one of Fightful’s sources saying that they’d hearing Sting would be signing “for a while”.
AEW has announced that the WWE Hall of Famer is going to speak on next week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, which is likely going to be taped at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville at some stage today.
