Interesting Daniel Bryan Match That Was Cancelled Ahead Of WWE SmackDown

Last night at Elimination Chamber, Daniel Bryan had a truly brilliant technical match with former NXT Cruiserweight Champion Drew Gulak.

While Bryan might have won, the former WWE Champion really helped put Gulak over with some brilliant storytelling and some great back-and-forth action.

Gulak’s story with Bryan has been running for the last few weeks where Gulak has been encouraging some of the rarely used SmackDown stars to take on the leader of the Yes Movement.

Over the last few weeks, Bryan has faced and subsequently defeated Heath Slater and Curtis Axel, both of whom are hardly used by WWE.

It has since been reported that Daniel Bryan was supposed to work a match on the 03/06 episode of SmackDown last week, two days before Elimination Chamber.

On the show, Bryan was supposed to work a match and likely defeat former 24/7 Champion and 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick.

On the matter, Fightful Select had the following to say:

“The word backstage was that Drake Maverick was said to have actually been set for a match with Daniel Bryan last week.”

There is no word on why the match was scrapped and if WWE is planning on having it take place on a future episode of SmackDown. For the latest on that, stay tuned to WrestleTalk.com.

It has been heavily rumored that Daniel Bryan will go one-on-one with Sheamus at WrestleMania this year. However, following the awesome clash between Bryan and Gulak last night, may people are hoping for a rematch at the “show of shows”.
