The in-ring action between Sasha Banks and Asuka in their Raw Women’s Championship match at Extreme Rules on Sunday night was nothing short of excellent.
Before a rather lacklustre finish, the former NXT Women’s Champions were well on their way to having one of the WWE pay-per-view matches of the entire year.
The match did feature a botch, however, when Sasha Banks seemed to slip on the top rope. However, fans questioned if it was planned after Asuka began working over Banks’ knee.
However, Dave Meltzer has noted that Banks was not supposed to slip off of the top rope like she did. Meltzer went on to applaud Banks’ selling, making the mistake look like it was planned.
Speaking on the Wrestling Observer’s post-show review of Extreme Rules, Meltzer confirmed that the spot was not planned, and was a botch:
“She did a great selling job to make you think it was serious when in fact, she fell off the ropes.”
Asuka and Banks will have the opportunity to put on another show-stealing match when they go one-on-one on Raw next week for Asuka’s championship.
