Former NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai has reacted to ‘rumors’ that she is finishing up with WWE.
Following previous reports that Shirai hadn’t signed a new WWE contract, with hers set to expire next month, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported that Shirai is ‘pretty much gone‘ from WWE.
Shirai has now taken to Twitter seemingly in reaction to this report, tweeting:
“Rumors?”
Other reports previously noted that it is believed that Shirai wants to return to Japan to be closer to her family.
The NXT star hasn’t wrestled since April’s Stand & Deliver special, and has been out of action since, recovering from an injury.
She is expected to return to the ring relatively soon, as is her former NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship tag partner Zoey Stark, who hasn’t wrestled since October 2021.
We will continue to provide updates on Shirai’s status as they become available.
