Is WWE Tone Deaf To The Murder Of Journalist Khashoggi?

Is WWE motivated by anything greater than wealth? On the surface, there’s Make a Wish, Connor’s Cure, and the Be a Star anti-bullying campaign. But what if there was something which demanded a moral compass, only it couldn’t make you any money? Or score you good publicity? That’s where journalist Jamal Khashoggi enters into the picture.

Despite the tide of criticism they faced, WWE went ahead with Crown Jewel earlier this month, even after a heroic journalist was assassinated, most believe at the hands of the Saudi royal family.

WWE now seems brazen and unrepentant about it. As you can see, they have little sensitivity about the murder of Khashoggi. But what about the things he stood for, and what he represented to many Middle Easterners? Was it anything like this?

This film is now being advertised on WWE television, as it happens to be Shane McMahon’s wife’s latest project. Define irony. The historical figure depicted in A Private War, war correspondent Marie Colvin, might as well be Jamal Khashoggi.

Colvin was killed during the siege of Homs, which many believe was an ordered assassination by the Syrian government. Less than a decade later, Khashoggi was sacrificed on a similar altar.

This begs a question. If this film, and this woman’s story, are important to WWE, why isn’t the story of Khashoggi as important, even though they are confronted square in the face with it?

What conclusions would you draw?
