New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced that Juice Robinson will defend the IWGP United States Championship against Chase Owens at the New Japan Cup Finals.
The match comes as no surprise as Owens defeated Robinson in the first round of the New Japan Cup. This will be Robinson’s second defence of the IWGP United States title. He recently defended the title against Beretta at The New Beginning in USA on February 1st.
Chase Owens managed to pull off the upset victory over Robinson in the first round of the tournament on March 8th. Despite the upset, Owens failed to make it passed the second round as he fell to YOSHI-HASHI. This will be Owens’ first opportunity to capture the IWGP United States Championship.
This is currently Juice Robinson’s second reign as the IWGP United States Champion. After a less successful reign in the Summer of 2018, Robinson lost his title to Cody at Fighting Spirit Unleashed in September. Just four months later, he defeated Cody to regain the title at Wrestle Kingdom 13.
The New Japan Cup Final will also feature the final match of the tournament. The winner of the tournament will receive a title shot at Jay White’s IWGP Heavyweight Championship at G1 Supercard. The finals will take place on March 24th.
