A huge IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match has been officially announced for NJPW Dominion.
In the main event of the June 12 show, Kazuchika Okada will defend the gold against Jay White. The Switchblade made his return in the closing moments of Wrestling Dontaku, attacking Okada and celebrating with Bullet Club.
Okada and White have history with one another, with White scoring an upset victory over the CHAOS leader in the 2018 G1 Climax tournament, before turning on CHAOS for Bullet Club that October.
White went on to defeat Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 13 in January 2019, before defeating Hiroshi Tanahashi for the IWGP Heavyweight Title at The New Beginning in Osaka that February. Okada finally defeated White for the gold that April at the NJPW x ROH G1 Supercard event.
Appearing to have Okada’s number, White defeated The Rainmaker in the duo’s most recent singles encounter, during the G1 Climax tournament in 2020.
While Dominion is usually one of NJPW’s biggest shows of the year, this year’s event is even more significant, as it takes place just two weeks before the NJPW x AEW ‘Forbidden Door‘ crossover event on June 26.
Jay White was heavily featured during the announcement segment on AEW Dynamite, and Bullet Club will seemingly play a huge role in NJPW moving forward, following the events of Wrestling Dontaku.
Three other title matches have been announced for the event. The current line-up for Dominion is as follows:
- Kazuchika Okada vs Jay White – IWGP World Heavyweight Championship
- Tama Tonga vs Karl Anderson (IMPACT) – NEVER Openweight Championship
- Bullet Club (Bad Luck Fale & Chase Owens) vs. United Empire (Jeff Cobb & Great-O-Khan) – IWGP Tag Team Championship
- Shingo Takagi vs Taichi – KOPW 2022 Provisional Trophy
